Totally interchangeable with Style PS1400 PTFE piston seals, Style PS1500 piston seals are molded from tough 60 Shore D durometer polyurethane. During the molding process, a .002” thick band of molybdenum disulfide is molded into the outside diameter of the seal ring for reduced friction. PS1500 piston seals are easily stretched over the piston and recover rapidly with the elimination of the “cold flow” characteristics found in PTFE seals. Piston diameter “I” dimensions are given for pistons without wear rings.

The Z-Seal™ is a squeeze type seal, combining the excellent sealability and low compression set of a resilient rubber lip with the greater anti-extrusion characteristics of a hard thermoplastic base. Under low pressure conditions, the sealing lip provides its own compressive seal force. As pressure increases, hydrostatic pressure is mechanically transmitted through the elastomeric seal element into the anti-extrusion base. The applied force then deflects radially in a controlled manner, closing the extrusion gap behind the sealing lip. Under this condition, maximum sealing effectiveness is achieved.

End clearance on piston rings depends on ring design, material andapplication. The following end clearances are provided as a standard for hydraulic cylinder applications. When using iron piston rings, it is crucial to use the correct groove design for proper performance of the cylinder. Please use the following guidelines when cutting an iron piston ring groove.
GROOVE WIDTH: To permit the ring to slide freely into the groove, the groove must be at least 0.001” wider than the maximum piston ring width with a tolerance of +0.003”/-0.000”.
GROOVE DEPTH: Grooves must be at least 0.015” deeper than the maximum radial wall thickness of the piston ring with a tolerance of +0.003”/-0.000”. This is to avoid any possibility of the ring bottoming in the groove when the ring is compressed to its working diameter.
RADIAL CLEARANCE: The radial clearance between the cylinder bore and piston should be less than 1/3 of the radial wall thickness of the piston ring to ensure sealing effectiveness.

Style ST-XL wipers are molded from premium urethane and are direct replacements for Style “ST” or “D” wipers. The outside diameter of the ring has a crush lip providing extra interference in the groove. A bead on the shoulder stops contaminates from entering through the groove. The inside diameter is ribbed to prevent pressure traps between the wiper and rod seal.

Features
- Crush lip to provide extra interference
- Bead on the shoulder to keep contaminants out
- Ribbed ID to prevent pressure traps
Utilizing the same profiles as the Style 800 Polyurethane U-Seal line, these u-seals are molded from a fluorocarbon, compound. While being compatible with a broader range of fluids, these fluorocarbon seals will also operate, continuously at temperatures from -20° to +400 °F. NOTE: If you are not sure of fluid/seal compatibility, please refer, to the fluid compatibility chart in the appendix or contact our Engineering Department.

Asymmetric rod seal designed with precision trimmed sealing lips to provide a dry sealing solution in light and medium-duty applications. The Hallite 605 is molded in Hythane® 181, Hallite’s high-performance polyurethane, for easy installation and excellent low temperature performance. The twin lip design helps solve difficult rod sealing problems by providing lower friction, increased stability, and high, dynamic lip force, while preventing air penetration from outside the cylinder. Designed to have interference in the seal housing groove and has a secondary lip. The secondary sealing lip located behind the primary sealing lip improves stability of the seal in the gland. The inner dynamic lip is shorter and more robust to improve sealing and compression set characteristics over conventional, symmetrical U-seals.
The seal can be considered for use in heavy-duty applications when used with a suitable full depth back-up ring. The sealing lips are precision trimmed at an angle to give optimal rod sealing performance.
